It doesn’t get more Canadian than this. The Toques of Hazzard Imperial White IPA from Parallel 49 Brewing Company prides itself as “just a good ol’ beer.” In proper Canadian tradition, this playful brew is strong, coming in at a 9.2% alc/vol.
The shameless nod to the Duke Boys is simply hilarious: the bottle’s label even includes lyrics for a cover version of the Dukes of Hazzard theme song, and features the “Toque Boys” on a red Zamboni, complete with a Canadian flag on the hood!
Made with a blend of pilsner malt, flaked wheat, Nelson Sauvin, Citra hops, yeast and water, this beer’s deceptively simple ingredients reveal a mildly sweet flavour with a touch of spice.
We love its colours: a bold, hazy gold, serving as the best possible invitation to take a sip. The next thing that grabbed us was the taste. Despite its “extra strong” classification, we were pleasantly surprised by the amount of sweet, yet somewhat spicy taste that manages to come through.
Oh, did we mention this beer is 9.2% alc/vol? We’re serious about its strength. The Toque Boys have some kick, and we would say this brew is meant to be enjoyed slowly. You know, the kind of beer you’d want to take to a hockey game, knowing you won’t need a refill too quickly, and the alcohol strength to liquid ratio means you won’t have to leave your seat!
